Newsletter Update: Swede Farm at 2013 Cannes Film Festival |
|

Here's a clip from our most recent newsletter. To sign up for our bi-monthly mailings, click here.
Swede farm in Waller, Texas is run by Tim and LeeAnne Carlson and their family. They make goat's milk, cheese, yogurt and kefir. Oh, and sometimes play host to a film crew.
Last summer was a busy one for the family–alongside the dairy production, a full-length film was made on the farm. The Carlsons worked in front of the lens of Houston-based director Roberto Minervini. The result: Stop the Pounding Heart, a movie that explores adolescence, family and social values, gender roles and religion in the American South. Less than a year later, members of the Carlson family are off to France to see the film screening at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
Read more about Swede Farm in our upcoming beverage issue, coming out on June 1. You can also keep up with their trip via the farm's blog posts, and read about their experiences during filming here.
Congratulations and bon voyage, Carlsons! |

May is National Bike Month! While many Austinites already get around on two wheels daily, there are a couple of fun food and beverage-related events coming up that will motivate even more commuters to get on that saddle and ride.
The Austin Cycling Association will be staging 8 Central Hub Sites around town to offer coffee, breakfast, mechanics and messenger bags to morning riders on their way to work from 7–9 am! Too early? The happy hour crowd can stop by the Hubs for beer and live music from 4:30–6:30 pm.
Register for one of Bicycle Sport Shop's most popular events online or on the day of the event. A ride through Blanco for all levels, each route is fully supported and ends at Real Ale brewery for a post-ride celebration with beer and barbecue. Registration includes entry fee, food and drinks, entertainment, parking and a Real Ale Ride T-shirt.
From Brazos St. to just past Chicon, E. 6th St. will be closed to motor vehicles but open to bikes and pedestrians for this street festival. Play in the street in whatever way gets you moving–this event is all about being active. Bike Austin will be stationed to help with repairs, talk about bike issues and share tips on routes and resources.
