NOTABLE EDIBLES
HOUSE TO HOUSE
Locavoraciousness just got a little easier with the spring launch of
Farmhouse Delivery, a harvest-to-home service bringing fresh local,
sustainable fare from area farms and eateries straight to your door or
workplace.
Hop online and browse the bodacious bounty that
includes pastured meats from Loncito’s Lamb, Bastrop Cattle Company,
Thunder Heart Bison and Dewberry Hill; delectable artisan cheeses, milk
and butter from Remember When Dairy, Wateroak Farms, Full Quiver Farm
and Veldhuizen; bakery goodies ranging from sour cherry scones and
other scrumptious dolci by former Vespaio baker Barrie Cullinan, to
Texas French Bread ciabatta and Paqui tortillas; the season’s peak
fruits such as apples from Bat Creek Farm in Bertram and citrus fruits
from G & S Groves in the Valley. Also available are pantry
must-haves like Texas Olive Ranch olive oil, Co-op Coffee and organic
jams—plus gourmet-worthy veggies galore, fresh from several local farms
including Rain Lily, the organic digs of Farmhouse Delivery co-creator
Stephanie Scherzer.
Farmhouse’s ordering options include a
“farm bushel” of around 10 seasonal veggies, or an “epicurean farm
bushel” that features everything in the farm bushel but also tucks in
exotic fare such as fava beans, artichokes or pesto. Add additional
grocery items if you wish, and depending on your particular delivery
day, the order is headed your way, packaged to stay fresh until you get
home. Farmhouse co-creator Elizabeth Winslow will even throw in some
enticing cooking ideas and recipes honed from her expertise as a chef,
restaurateur and forager.
Winslow and Scherzer say the mission
behind Farmhouse Delivery is simply to connect people with good food
and good agriculture. To that end, they’re upping the fun quotient with
regular get-togethers like every other Wednesday’s Farmstand Happy
Hour, and cooking and gardening classes held at Rain Lily Farm.
