Born and raised on the East Coast, Stella moved to Austin, Texas from New York City in 1993 to pursue an artistic career. Stella exhibits regularly in the fine art realm both photography and painting. Currently, most often at the 2040 Gallery in Austin. Stella has recently received a Brown Foundation Fellowship to attend the Vermont Studio Centers Residency Programs for her painting.

When San Francisco-based photographer Christine Alicino got the assignment to shoot M.F.K. Fisher for Heidi Yorkshire’s profile, she was just starting her career. For the portrait, Alicino used a 4x5 camera. She exposed the border of grapes on black velvet in advance, then used the same film for Fisher’s image. Almost 20 years later, the portrait remains one of Alicino’s favorites, hanging in her kitchen in an ornate frame as “a kind of a shrine.” Learn more about Christine at christinealicino.com.

A writer and self-confessed foodie, Marilyn McCray has cooked at a dude ranch and served on the Restaurant Committee of the Santa Fe Wine and Chile Fiesta. Her love of food has taken her to Boggy Creek Farm in East Austin where she assists with the Saturday farm stand, selling organic vegetables and visiting with the locals and chefs who frequent the farm. Veronica Meewes graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 2004. She first joined Sustainable Food Center upon returning from a few years in Europe, where she guided hiking and biking trips, taught English and directed high school study abroad programs. Susan Shields is a writer living in South Austin with her husband, Nathan, and daughter, Lux. She has waited tables at Vespaio on South Congress and written about food and restaurants for Tribeza since 2000. Her fiction has twice taken top prizes in The Austin Chronicle’s short story contest.

Smiley has over 12 years experience working in sustainable agriculture and food systems, including on-farm production, agricultural marketing, micro-enterprise development, food journalism, farmer training and technical assistance, and even food-service management. Andrew W. Smiley currently works with Sustainable Food Center in Austin, Texas as Farm Direct Projects Director.

Breez Smith is a senior at Garza High School and Assistant Crew Leader for Urban Roots. He knows irrigation, tomatoes and pizza like the back of his hard working hands. Oh yeah, he can rhyme too.

Soll Sussman, a former Associated Press correspondent and news editor for Mexico and Central America, returned to Austin to work on alternative and renewable energy projects. He still writes about anything except politics. In his spare time, he watches over the "Fans of Diana Kennedy" group on Facebook.

Ellen Sweets wrote about food for the Dallas Morning News, Neiman Marcus and the Denver Post before moving to Austin last summer. Her love of eating well originated with her parents who always shopped at farmers markets. A much-loved food memory involves picking peaches in the afternoon then making peach ice cream at night on the back porch of the family home.

Jeremy Walther is owner of BioGardener (bio-gardener.com ), a nontraditional landscaping company based in Austin. He received his B.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M, and previously worked as a staff biologist for a local consulting firm and as a contract biologist for the City of Austin. He enjoys listening to his wife, Maia, when she complains that all of his clothes are stained with waste vegetable oil, which is “greasy, bad-smelling and disgusting.”

She contributed travel and food features to Bon Appetit, Travel & Leisure and many other magazines.
