Slow Food Austin Farm Foraging Tour At Stryk Dairy-Strkly Cheese (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
Slow Food Austin Farm Foraging Tours
Slow Food Austin is delighted to be leading Central Texas farm tours. Slow Food USA works to reconnect people with their local food traditions and food communities. The Austin chapter reasons that local food begins on the farm, so they invite Austinites to witness firsthand the innovation, hard work and love Texas farmers pour into their craft. Each farm tour includes a structured talk and a modest purchased sample of the farm’s fare. Comments Farm Tour Coordinator Betsy Levy, “If you like meeting farmers at the farmer's market, you'll really appreciate meeting them on the farm and getting a sense of their work. It makes the food taste even better – really.”
Stryk Dairy/Strykly Cheese
You're really from somewhere when you live on a road named after your family. Bob Stryk's grandfather was running the family dairy in Schulenberg before industrialization drove all the small Texas dairies out of business. With true farmer innovation, Bob and Darlene Stryk have found the niche direct markets that enable them to continue this tradition and milk their Jerseys on a small, intimate scale. The Stryks offer raw milk to a small but growing and passionate group of locals, and they have built a loyal clientele for their own hand-crafted cheese, including a traditional Czech specialty, koch kase.Raw milk has been in and out of the news with increasing frequency. The City of Austin is considering passing an ordinance allowing its sale within city limits, in response to federal and state regulatory pressures to stifle it. Bob and Darlene have a few things to say on the subject, naturally. Come out to the dairy, meet the herd, taste the milk, and decide for yourself. Participants will take home a selection of the dairy's products. Limited spaces will fill fast; RSVP at

Spring Fling Organicfest Benefitting TOFGA (11:00 AM - 1:00 PM)
Spring Fling Organicfest Certified Organic Brunch Prepared by Barr Mansion Sunday, March 28th, 11am
The Barr Mansion cooking team is rounding up the best of local and organic foods. We're creating a brunch featuring a Barr Mansion Benedict (using America's only certified organic prosciutto, tender greens, farm-fresh eggs...) to be enjoyed in our equally unique 1700's Artisan Ballroom.
Angel Valley, Antonelli's Cheese Shop, Boggy Creek, Coyote Creek Feed Mill, Johnson's Backyard Garden, Lund Produce and Shades of Green have all graciously donated produce, prosciutto and eggs for our menu. A sparkling cocktail will be provided to complement brunch and inspire us in this new food revolution.
Tickets are $50. All proceeds go to benefit TOFGA (Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association), a non-profit group whose primary mission is to promote organic agriculture - a system that protects human and animal health, and preserves the environment.
