Eat Local Week 2009 wrap up!
Edible Austin Eat Local Week wrapped up eight memorable days of feasting and festing with local food and foodies on Saturday, December 12. This year we were fortunate to have Dustin Meyer Photography as a sponsor and you can relive the week's main events through Dustin's wonderful photography posted by event on his blog (Events section): dustinmeyerblog.com. Read a great account of our Drink Local Night’s Tipsy Texan Local Cocktail Contest, with a complete listing of the contestants, the winners and their recipes on the Tipsy Texan blog: tipsytexan.com. Congratulations to first place winner Laura Nixon, with her cocktail “We’re in it for the Corn”—starring Balcones Baby Blue Corn Whiskey and Paula’s Texas Orange. We’d also like to congratulate the grand prize winner of our Eat Local Week Raffle, Brian McGinley. Brian won a night at Hotel Saint Cecilia with cocktail bar credit and a Dai Due Supper Club dinner for two.  First prize winner, Stephanie Freed, won a night at the Hyatt Regency Downtown for two with dining credit and a gift certificate from Uchi (courtesy of Terry Thompson-Anderson). Our two second prize winners were Mary Donohoe and Debbie Shackelford, each winning gift certificates from Farm to Market Grocery (plus t-shirts) and Hotel San José. And our five third place winners (of Urban Roots bags and produce) were: Karin Peters, Colin Walsh, S. Embrey, Jonathon Storms and Brian Gavron. Thanks so much to our raffle sponsors and everyone who bought raffle tickets for your generous support. As soon as we finalize collecting donations, we will announce the total money raised for Urban Roots, but are projecting that we will definitely surpass the $25,000 raised last year, thanks to the great turnout this year and to all of our sponsors and participating restaurants and markets.
