Yields 2 8-oz. Glasses

For years, the blackberry plant in our garden has plotted its takeover of the fence and surrounding area should we ever neglect to trim it back or stake it upward. Last year’s blackberry bounty was more fruitful than the combined harvest from years prior and left me with berries to use after exhausting jam and cobbler avenues.

Super easy

Blackberry Bounce

Ingredients

For 2 Person(s)

Recipe

  • 1 cups Ripe Blackberries
  • 2 tablespoons Water
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons Sugar
  • 3 ounces Whiskey
  • Dashes of Blackberry Bitters or other Bitters (recipe for Blackberry Bitters on edibleaustin.com database)

Blackberry Bounce Directions

  1. Combine the blackberries and water in a small saucepan.
  2. Cover and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from the heat and mash the berries.
  5. Strain the pulp through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the seeds.
  6. Add the sugar to the thick blackberry liquid and stir to dissolve.
  7. Fill two 8-ounce glasses with ice and divide the whiskey and blackberry syrup between them.
  8. Add bitters if using and stir to combine.
  9. Garnish with an orange twist.
