Homemade Teriyaki Sauce


For 4 Person(s)


  • 2/3 cups mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine)
  • 1 cups soy sauce
  • 4 1/2 teaspoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoons sesame oil
  • cups brown or cane sugar (or more to taste)
  • 7 cloves garlic, minced
  • tablespoons minced fresh ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoons red pepper flakes or hot chili oil
  • Black pepper to taste

Homemade Teriyaki Sauce Directions

  1. Bring mirin to a boil in a saucepan over high heat.
  2. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Add soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil and sugar to combine.
  4. Add garlic, ginger, pepper flakes and black pepper and simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Cool mixture and store in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator.
